you wouldn’t drink from an unlabeled bottle. but somehow an unlabeled powder gets a pass because someone you trust said it’s fine.

trust is not a testing method.

“‘probably mdma’ and ‘safe to take’ are two completely different sentences.”

⚠️ in the past two years, european testing services have found cathinones, PMA/PMMA, methamphetamine, and caffeine sold as MDMA. any one of these can change your night from good to fatal. testing is how you find out before your body does.

the three levels

testing isn’t one thing. it’s a ladder. each level answers a different question.

level 1 — reagent testing (what’s in it?)

reagent testing tells you what’s present. not how much. not how pure. just: is this substance what you think it is.

the five things your crowd actually tests, and what each needs:

  • MDMA: marquis + mecke + simon’s
  • cocaine: liebermann + scott
  • ketamine: morris + froehde
  • LSD: ehrlich + hofmann
  • 2C-B: marquis + mecke + froehde

three minutes per test. around 20-27 euros for a multi-use kit. each bottle gives roughly 100 tests. the math per use is cents, not euros.

don’t memorize reaction charts — use the full reagent database at protestkit.eu/drugspro/reagents. if you’re not sure which kit you need, their interactive quiz walks you through it.

ℹ️ EU regulation change: liquid sulfuric acid reagents above 15% are now illegal for individual purchase. newer kits use crystalline formulas — same chemistry, different form factor, longer shelf life. make sure you’re buying current-generation kits.

ℹ️ practice at home with aspirin first. it has a known marquis reaction (no color change / slow brown). get comfortable with the process before you need it at 11pm.

level 2 — TLC purity testing (how pure is it?)

TLC — thin layer chromatography. sounds like a lab technique. it is. but it’s also something you can run on your kitchen table.

dissolve a sample. apply it to a card. stand the card in a small jar of solvent. wait for the liquid to climb. check under UV light. each spot is a substance. their position tells you what. their size tells you how much.

🔬 reagents tell you WHAT. TLC tells you HOW MUCH and HOW MANY substances are present. combined, you get roughly 80% of what a lab would give you. for around 50 euros and 20 minutes.

protestkit.eu sells TLC kits with video walkthroughs. if you can follow a recipe, you can run a TLC test.

ℹ️ TLC sounds intimidating. it’s not. the kits come with step-by-step instructions. the hardest part is waiting for the solvent to climb.

level 3 — lab testing (the gold standard)

home testing has limits. labs don’t.

  • DIMS — netherlands. free. walk-in. anonymous. no questions asked
  • the loop — UK festival on-site testing
  • energy control — spain. international mail-in testing, around 50 euros

labs give you exact milligram dosage, full adulterant profiles, and can identify novel substances that no reagent kit covers.

ℹ️ if you’re in the netherlands, DIMS is free and anonymous. no excuse.

fentanyl strips — yes, in europe too

fentanyl strips work on pills and powder. dissolve a small amount in water, dip the strip, read in two minutes.

they’re a useful additional layer. but they don’t catch all fentanyl analogs, and a negative result doesn’t mean safe.

ℹ️ a negative fentanyl strip means one specific danger is less likely. not absent. use strips WITH reagents, not instead of.

what testing can’t tell you

no test tells you the exact dose in a pill from a photo. can’t guarantee safety. can’t catch everything in a complex mixture. can’t predict how your body will react on a given night.

testing gives you information. what you do with it is your decision — but it’s a decision made with data instead of hope.

“reagent testing is the seatbelt. lab testing is the airbag. neither makes you invincible. but not wearing the seatbelt is insane.”

where to buy + what to do with results

  • protestkit.eu — EU-wide, discreet shipping, crypto option
  • dancesafe — US-based, ships internationally
  • reagent tests UK — UK-specific supplier

ℹ️ test kits are legal everywhere in europe. they’re chemical reagents, not paraphernalia. nobody has ever been prosecuted for owning a marquis bottle.

the basics: marquis goes purple-black = MDMA present, proceed with caution and check your dose. if you’re combining, check the interaction on /mix. no reaction or wrong color = not what you think. stop.

check protestkit.eu/drugspro/alerts for current warnings in your region before you go out.

ℹ️ no test result makes you “safe.” it gives you information. what you do with it is your decision — but it’s a decision made with data instead of hope.
